Local Civil War History is exemplified by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Fort Davidson State Park and Visitors Center located in our sister city of Pilot Knob.
In Ironton, a monument of a Union Soldier standing on a granite base, commemorates the spot where Ulysses S. Grant received notification of his promotion to the rank of Brigadier General during the Civil War.
Two Civil War era cannons on the courthouse lawn also portray the significance of the Battle of Pilot Knob to history. The Court House bears scars that it received during the battle here in Ironton.
Ironton is located within a few miles of the best fishing streams and lakes in southeast Missouri.
