Pilot Knob is a small community situated in the Arcadia Valley, surrounded by the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. A very historic Civil War battle was fought here Sept. 27, 1864. Fort Davidson State Historic Site is located inside our city limits, and has a fiber-optic display of the troop movements and story of the battle. A battle re-enactment is staged at the site every three years. The original earthen fort is still here. There are three state parks, Elephant Rocks, Johnson Shut-Ins, and Taum Sauk Mountain, each located less than 12 miles from Pilot Knob. These scenic parks provide picnicking and camping facilities. There is also a very nice quiet community park located on the Pilot Knob Historic Site grounds with pavilions, playgrounds, and public restrooms.
Pilot Knob has one motel located adjacent to the Fort Davidson State Historic site. There are two family style restaurants, Ft. Davidson Cafe & Bells Station (with miniature golf), a McDonalds and a Subway located inside the City Limits. We have a community market featuring fresh meat, groceries, a deli, and souvenirs. Located within two miles from Pilot Knob are numerous antique and craft shops. Pilot Knob has two medical centers, a residential care center, a lumber yard, and several other businesses.
This is small town life at it's best. Beautiful scenery, friendly people, and lots of things to see and do while you are here. Be sure to notice our Welcome signs located at each entrance to Pilot Knob.
